Description: | Pass of Ryvoan, 9.7 km. east-south-east of Aviemore. Inverness-shire. Terminal and lateral moraines at lower end of Pass of Ryvoan. In foreground, drained basin of temporary lake held up by a terminal moraine, cut through by stream. Successive pauses in the retreat of the glacier southwards down the pass of Ryvoan are indicated by the terminal moraines which cross the glen at intervals. One is shown here. Evidence from the lateral moraines shows that the dry valley of the Pass of Ryvoan was an obvious route of escape for the Glen More ice for a considerable period. |
