Description: Holder's Quarry Chalk-pit, Upper Halling. Looking E. Large quarry in chalk for Portland Cement Works. The greater part of the face is in Lower Chalk, some 10ft of the Varians Zone being exposed at the bottom. The block of houses projecting into the quarry stands on the junction of Lower and Middle Chalk, the line being traceable to right and left (see No. A2179). The distant hills on the right are on the far (extreme) side of the Medway.
