Description: | From Rothiemurchus Forest. Inverness-shire. Plateau of the Cairngorm Massif. Wind gap of the Lairig Ghru in left centre. On the left is Castle Hill with Creag an Leth-choin (Lurcher's Crag) behind. On the right, Carn Eilrig with Braeriach behind. The solid geology of the area is one where the high ground is formed of a large granite batholith emplaced at a depth of 4-6 km. at c. 408 Ma. while in the lower ground of the foreground, the rocks are much older Grampian Group (Dalradian Supergroup) metamorphosed mudstone/siltstones called pelites. |
