Cliff section showing a narrow cave excavated by the sea along a great joint in the flagstones of the Old Red Sandstone, Noss Head Group. The joint has acted as a line of weakness along which the powerful hydraulic action of wave power has eroded a cave. The cave remains narrow because of the highly resistant unjointed adjacent rock. Eventually, the roof of the cave will collapse and the rock to the right of the cave will form a sea stack. |
