Description: General view of cliffs on E. side of Alum Bay, from the Pier. Looking E. Bracklesham Beds and Bagshot Sands, Alum Bay. The strata shown are about vertical; those which descend to the beach within the limits of the view are coloured sands and clays referred to the Bagshot and Bracklesham Series. The Bracklesham pebble bed, 47 feet from base of the Barton Beds, follows crest of first buttress from the left-hand limit of view. The top of the Bagshot Sands lies a little to left of the strongly - illuminated wall-like feature in lower half of cliff towards right-hand limit of view (? inch from right side of photo). The dark slopes on right are on London Clay. Chalk and chalky 'head' showing below the white rail-posts on extreme right; skyline of West High Down (Chalk) above.
