Description: View of cliffs on either side of Compton Chine, 1 m. NW of Hanover Point, Compton Bay. Looking NE. Lower Greensand at Compton Chine. The gravelly loam at top of cliff rests on light, irregularly interlaminated sands and clays in the lower part of the Sandrock Series. The darker and more evenly stratified beds beneath are the Ferruginous Sands, in which the mouth of the chine, seen towards right of view, is excavated. Slipped Atherfield Clay and Wealden Beds in distance. Ref: 'A short account of the geology of the Isle of Wight', pp.31-33.
