| Description: | Stacks of Duncansby. Looking north. Caithness. Cliff and stacks of John o' Groats Sandstone (Old Red Sandstone age) viewed from the top of the cliffs. Cliff and stack of Caithness Flagstone Group can be seen in the far distance. The pyramidal stacks have been formed through the processes of marine erosion attacking the joints and bedding planes of former headlands. They now sit on a wave-cut platform and attain a height of nearly 200 feet, this is the same height as the cliffs to which they were once attached. |
