| Description: | St. Boniface Stone and Concrete Company, cutting, Ventnor Station. Looking NE. Upper Greensand and Chloritic Marl, Ventnor. The lower, dark-grey part of quarry-face is in the Freestone Beds and overlying Chert Beds of the Upper Greensand. The lower half, approximately, of the light band at the top of the quarry is Chloritic Marl, at the base of the Lower Chalk. Thin chalk-and-flint gravel, weathering into stony loam, forms the floor of the combe in which the quarry is excavated. Ref: 'A short account of the geology of the Isle of Wight', pp.57-63. |
