Description: | Knock Cliff, from foreshore S. of Shanklin Pier, Sandown Bay. Looking S. Lower Greensand at Knock Cliff. The cliff is in the upper beds of the Ferruginous Sands and overlying Sandrock Series, the junction of the two divisions occurring on the lower of the two shelves (determined by clay-beds) most clearly seen rather to the right of the middle of the view. The nearer of the two promontories is Shanklin Point, to the left of which is Horse Ledge, nearly submerged. Ref: 'A Short account of the geology of the Isle of Wight', pp.38-41. |
