Description: Culver and Red Cliffs, from Sandown Fort. Looking E. Cretaceous rocks in the northern part of Sandown Bay. Mottled clay of Wealden Marls showing through shingles to right of foreground. The figure stands on the lowest beds of the overlying Wealden Shales. In the background, from left to right, are: (1) degraded cliff in Wealden Shales, capped by the Perna Bed of Lower Greensand; (2) slipped Atherfield Clay etc. overlapping the beach; (3) mural cliff (Redcliff) of Ferruginous Sands of Lower Greensand; (4) lighter cliff (Culver Cliff) of Upper Greensand (below and in part of the path) and Lower and Middle Chalk. Garborough Monument and Coastguard Station on skyline. Bedding dips away from and to left of spectator.
