Description: | Culbin sand-hills. Morayshire. Sand advancing and overwhelming plantation of Scotch fir (Scots pine). In some areas there are stands of trees 21 m. tall that have been engulfed by shifting sand-dunes with the result that the lower half of their height may be buried yet the trees survive. At Maviston, large dunes completely engulfed mature trees. Dead trunks later emerged as the dune migrated. |
