Description: Culbin sand-hills. Morayshire. Arrest of drifting sand by plantation of Scotch fir (Scots pine). The direction of sand-drift is parallel to the edge of plantation and away from observer, i.e. from west to east. At the time of the photograph most plantings were of Scotch fir (Scots pine) with some Corsican pine. Since then there have been many trial introductions of different species though most have failed or were not taken up. The Special Trial Plot still exists today.
