Description: Culbin sand-hills. Morayshire. Arrest of drifting sand by plantation of Scotch fir (Scots pine). The direction of sand-drift is towards observer, i.e. from west to east. The tree are partly engulfed by sand. By 1963 the Forestry Commission plantings had reached 2560 ha., the present coverage of forest in the Culbin. Since 1922, their plan had been to stabilize and plant from the south-west towards the north-east so that as successive plots were stabilized, it enabled the trees to provide shelter for the newer plantings.
