Description: | Culbin sand-hills. Morayshire. Arrest of drifting sand by plantation of Scotch fir (Scots pine). The direction of sand-drift is towards observer, i.e. from west to east. By 1900 just over 1200 ha. of trees had been planted on the Binsness and Brodie Estates. It was not until the Forestry Commission started purchasing the Culbin in 1922 that large-scale afforestation began with major plantings from 1922, 1939, 1946. |
