Description: Culbin sand-hills. Morayshire. In middle distance - old land surface swept clear of advancing sand and planted with Scotch fir (Scots pine) to check renewed advance. Stabilization of the sand dunes by planting trees was begun in 1837 by R. Grant of Kincorth. Since then various private schemes were started. Large-scale afforestation began in the 1920's when the Forestry Commission started buying up the Culbin.
