| Description: | Culbin sand-hills. Morayshire. Successive storm beaches situated on a raised beach are swept clear by the wind in advance of the drifting dunes. The direction of sand-drift is almost towards observer, i.e. from west to east. The advancing dome-shaped sand-hill in the left-distance was known as Lady Culbin. The storm beaches represent a period of deposition prior to the development of the dunes by blown sand. At the time of their formation the sea level was higher, storms formed a series of shingle ridges, subsequently, a relative fall in sea level left the ridges above the present sea level on a 'raised beach'. |
