Description: Lichfield Road, W. of Hopwas. Looking SW. A typical gravel-pit in the Bunter; shows beds of sandstone between the layers (often wedges) of gravel. This is near the base of the Bunter where the pebbles are generally larger as may be seen in the heap of screened pebbles. These are broken up for road metal; the heap of fine sand and gravel to the left is used for paths, etc.; much of it is sold for private gardens.
