Description: | Gravel-pit, Croxley Green, near Watford. Looking NE. The photograph shows about 15 feet of gravel consisting of sub-angular flints, with some rounded flint pebbles and fragments of sarsen and pudding stone resting on an irregular surface of Chalk. Just above the Chalk surface shown, a number of Palaeolithic implements were found. This gravel belongs to the present Colne Valley and may be correllated with the Taplow Terrace. |
