Description: | Chesil Beach, from West Cliff, Portland. The Chesil runs up the centre of the picture, enclosing (in the distance) a lagoon known as the 'Fleet'. On the right is seen a part of the bay which lies between Portland Island and the mainland. This bay is separated from the 'Fleet' by a small beach of local material, which springs from the mainland, attaches itself to the Chesil Beach and then curves away to the right, enclosing a small 'fleet' between itself, the Chesil Beach and Portland Island. |
