Caption: | The 'Three Sisters of Glen Coe'. |
Description: | From left to right; Beinn Fhada, Gearr Aonach and Aonach Dubh are spurs of Bidean nam Bian. Photographed from above the Iron Bridge. Argyllshire. Lower Old Red Sandstone volcanic rocks of the Glencoe Cauldron Subsidence. They consist of thick rhyolite flows above thinner flows of augite-andesite dipping from right to left. The valley is a classic glacially eroded U-shaped valley with the hanging valleys of Allt Coire Gabhail on the left and Coire nan Lochan on the right. Note how the spurs have been truncated by the glacier that flowed down Glen Coe. |
