| Description: | A very prominent natural feature in the district, this conical volcanic plug is 187 metres high and stands about 140 metres above the surrounding countryside. This Carboniferous intrusion is related to the Garleton Hills Volcanic Rocks. The phonolitic trachyte plug is intruded into the country rock composed of basaltic tuff of the North Berwick Member, the basal pyroclastic formation of the Garleton Hills Volcanic Rocks. It has been dated at c. 323 Ma. |
