| Description: | Levencorroch Burn, 3.219 km. north-west of Kildonan Castle. Buteshire. A small dolerite sill intrusive in Triassic sandstone is seen retarding denudation and giving rise to a waterfall. A man is seen standing by the waterfall. The fall is formed because the outcrop of resistant dolerite is underlain by weaker rocks, the latter are worn down at a faster rate, begin to undercut then as the face of the resistant rock becomes vertical the stream plunges over to form a waterfall. Eventually the waterfall will degrade into rapids before it is smoothed out entirely. |
