Description: Coryton Slate Quarry, 6 1/2 m. N. of Tavistock. Method of working for slate. Cleavage planes are seen dipping from left to right, and in the middle of the photograph a cleavage plane is exposed. The beds dip from right to left at a high angle, and two beds of roofing slate are quarried. The other beds are waste. Vertical joints are seen cutting both bedding and cleavage planes at right-angles. The rocks are of Carboniferous age and underlie chert.
