Description: South Roughcastle opencast coal mining site, High Bonnybridge. West Lothian. View of the opencast excavation from a large spoil heap. The workings are in the lower part of the Lower Coal Measures and the uppermost beds of the Passage Formation. Coal seams between the Armadale Main and Crofthead Slatyband, together with certain seat clays, are worked by NSM - Coal Contractors Ltd. A fault is visible in the face, opposite the disused farm buildings which straddle a well-developed drumlin.
