Description: Tom's Forest Quarry, 3 km. west of Kintore. Aberdeenshire. Looking south into new quarry from near old railway line. Kemnay granite, grey, coarse-grained, foliated, shows hydrothermal alteration with bleaching of biotite and alteration of feldspars to pale green-yellow material (? epidote) in part of lower level. Granite is relatively closely jointed and cut by microdiorite dykes and sheets (not obvious in photo). Note the shovel excavator on the higher level.
