Description: Hessilhead Quarry (Lugton Lime Works) 3.2 km. east of Beith. Ayrshire. Near view of the quarry face, showing arching of strata, bedding and jointing in Dockra Limestone. Tracks for a light railway lead to various points of the quarry face. Quarrymen are working on a number of tasks, two are loading a truck with blocks to be taken to the crusher. The Dockra Limestone is one of the four principal Carboniferous limestones of economic importance in North Ayrshire.
