Description: | Blackpool China-clay Works, Burngullow Common, St. Mewan. Looking SE. Pump and launder. The launder here shown serves the same purpose as the pipe depicted in the last photograph (A197): the water from the settling pits runs back for some distance underground and is then raised to the necessary level by means of the pump, whence it travels along the launder to the clay-pit. The engine which works the pump is connected with that by the iron rod seen below the launder. |
