Description: | Blackpool China-clay Works, Burngullow Common, St. Mewan. Looking S. Iron conveying up pipe. The pipe here shown conveys water left after the settlement of the clay in the Settling pits, back to the clay-pit where it is again used. This is necessary owing to the position of the latter on the hill, where water cannot be obtained naturally. The house which contains the engine used for pumping the water up the pipe can be seen at its extremity. Just behind it are the settling pits to which the clay water is delivered by means of an underground pipe. |
