Description: Processing of Scottish mica. Pitlochry Depot (January 1945). Perthshire. Cutting and trimming mica at the Sorting Factory. Opened in August 1943, with a staff of six under Mr. A.B. Mudie of the Eastern Mica Co. Ltd. and later under Mrs. D.G. Readie. Equipment used is of a simple nature, consisting of various types of knives each used for a distinct and separate purpose. The cutters take the rough dressed mica and carefully remove all the flaws and trim the edges leaving blocks of mica of irregular shape and having a curved or indented outline Processing of mica involved three stages, 1. rough cobbing, 2. splitting, 3. trimming. It does not undergo any other process of treatment or concentration before it is ready for use.
