| Description: | Sclattie Quarry, Bucksburn. Aberdeenshire. General view at base of the granite quarry showing powerful inclined joint or 'slide'. The other significant feature in the photograph is the stairway used as access for the quarrymen. Buckets full of finer waste and large blocks await lifting by the blondin. Joints are a fracture in the rock between the sides of which there has been no relative movement. In the granites most of the jointing would have formed during cooling of the molten granite during emplacement, though some may be caused by unloading of the granite when the cover is eroded away. |
