Description: | Silver Grey Quarry, Creetown. Kirkcudbrightshire. General view of the quarry face and floor showing method of working by means of crane and 'blondin'. A steam-driven crane is seen in the centre, its vertical boiler positioned between the crane stays. The pulley wheel and tray in the centre are part of the blondin used to raise the granite blocks to the surface. Large recently split granite blocks surround the crane and two bogies are seen, one on and one off the railway tracks. |
