Description: | Corsehill Quarry, Annan. Dumfriesshire. New section of quarry. Just after a blast loosened blocks are being raised to surface using a chain sling. Note the differential weathering, the hard sandstones stand proud while the interbedded fine-grained silty mudstones being softer, are weathered back into the face. The structure at the top of the cliff is there to hold down a stay of the crane (out of view). The rock is early Triassic fine-grained water-laid sandstone. The interbedding indicates different conditions at the time of deposition of the sediments. |
