Description: | Locharbriggs Quarry. Dumfriesshire. General view of working platform. Shows method of working the Permian red sandstone against the dip of the beds. Forms part of a panorama with C03597. At the top of the quarry are several electric-powered cranes. These powerful cranes with steel lattice jibs were capable of lifting blocks 12 feet by 6 feet to the top of the quarry. The Locharbriggs Sandstone Formation of Permian age is c. 700-1,000 m. thick and has been worked for hundreds of years. |
