Description: Devon Quarry, 3.2 km. north of Alloa. Clackmannanshire. Working massive, thick-bedded, red sandstone (Devon Red Sandstone). The foreground shows an old part of the quarry becoming overgrown with vegetation on the spoil heaps. In the distance a new extension shows a hand winched crane adapted to operate with a vertical steam boiler. Note access to the working platform by ladder. There are references to Devon Quarry being worked at the beginning of the 18th Century. Devon Red Sandstone is part of the Coal Measures, Upper Carboniferous in age.
