Description: Label name: Vermont, Pitts. Valley. Alternative name: Pittsford. Specimen description: Blue-white with feathery dark grey veins. Text from: Watson, J. British and foreign marbles and other ornamental stones. Cambridge : University Press, 1916. 671 PITTSFORD. Pittsford Valley Quarries, Pittsford, Vermont. About eight miles north of West Rutland there is a group of quarries yielding a marble that differs from those of West Rutland, in that the ground-mass has a slightly bluish tint, and the veinings, which are in the form of feathery patches, are of a darker grey colour. The specimen is a good example of this variety. The beds of this marble run through Pittsford, and the quarries are practically in the town. It is stated that those who developed the quarries of Pittsford were among the pioneers of the marble industry in Vermont, marble having been quarried in Pittsford as early as 1795
The Lehigh Valley Trust Co.'s Buildings, Alletown Pa., are decorated with this variety.
