Description: Label name: Cisterine, Arni Alto, Italy. Alternative name: Arni Vein. Specimen description: Cream-white with yellow-grey-freen veins. Also known as Arni Alto. Text from: Watson, J. British and foreign marbles and other ornamental stones. Cambridge : University Press, 1916. 345 ARNI VEIN. Arni Quarries, Carrara, Tuscany. This specimen is a typical example of the third or veined group of Carrara Marbles. It is sometimes known as Arni Alto or Vert Bella. The quarries are situated at Arni, a district about sixteen miles from Carrara. As the specimen shows, this variety is whiter in the matrix than the Sicilian Marbles; and a yellowish grey tint is present in the veinings, which is a distinguishing feature of Arni Vein. Considerable quantities of this marble have been imported into the British Isles lately, and it is assuming an important position among the marbles belonging to the Carrara group. It was used in 1911 for decorating the inside walls of the New Post Office, King Edward's Buildings, London. Another good example may be seen in the wall panelling at the entrance of a. block of offices in the Haymarket. An instance of its use may also be seen in Ireland, the interior of the Long Tower Roman Catholic Church, Londonderry, having been decorated with it in 1909.
