This large slab represents one of the best known marbles produced in the Campan Valley. The dominating colours are light and dark green, the markings are amygdaloidal in form, and well defined white and grey veins intersect the mass. This marble is used for all kinds of internal decorative work in France. It is popular for making the tops of the tables that may be seen in the numerous restaurants and cafes in Paris. It has been used for internal decorative work in many of the hotels of London; and an example may be seen in the entrance hall of the Russell Hotel (1900). It has been used in the Westminster Roman Catholic Cathedral (1903). There are also instances of its use in the Opus Alexandrinum pavement in the chancel of Peterborough Cathedral (1892), and in that of Bristol Cathedral (1895). |
