Description: | Label name: Pavonazzo, Vermont. Alternative name: American Pavonazzo. Specimen description: Milky White with pronounced dark green veins. Text from: Watson, J. British and foreign marbles and other ornamental stones. Cambridge : University Press, 1916. 667 AMERICAN PAVONAZZO. Marble Quarries, West Rutland, Vermont. This specimen represents another variety of the white and green marbles of West Rutland. The matrix possesses more of a milk-white colour, and the green veinings are more pronounced and much darker than those in the specimens described above. It slightly resembles the well-known Pavonazzo Marble of Italy (see No. 346), hence the name by which it is known commercially. The interior of the First National Bank, Hazleton, Pa., built in 1904, is decorated with this marble. |
