Description: | Label name: Imperial Blue, Grant's Quarry. Alternative name: Alabama Pentellic B.B. Specimen description: Cloudy blue and white. Text from: Watson, J. British and foreign marbles and other ornamental stones. Cambridge : University Press, 1916. 590 ALABAMA PENTELIC B.B. Gantts Quarries, Talladega Co., Alabama. This is a third variety from the Gantts Quarries, and is a clouded blue and white rock. These marbles claim to be good substitutes for the well-known Greek Marbles of Pentelikon, after which two of the varieties are named; but the hardness of their texture renders them less suitable for the highly decorative or statuary work for which the Creek Pentelic mar-tiles are famed. |
