Description: | Scrabster Quarry, 2.4 km. north-west of Thurso. Caithness. The quarry office. Single flags form the walls and roof of the office, this illustrates the large size of slabs that could be worked. Boulder clay overlying flagstones forms a cliff behind. Cut slabs are stored to the left. The thick overburden of boulder clay or till is a much more recent glacial deposit than the underlying Devonian (Old Red Sandstone) Caithness Flagstones. |
