Description: | Easdale Island. Argyllshire. Easdale Slate quarry in 'Black Slate Group'. A view of the quarry face showing means of access for the quarrymen - a series of ladders stretching down the face. The cleavage dips steeply from left to right, and the bedding is almost indistinguishable. The Black Slate Group is of Dalradian age. The Easdale Slate belt extended from the north of Jura, through the islands of Scarba, Belnahua, Luing, Shuna and Easdale to Seil and then northwards to Oban - a distance of 20 miles. |
