Caption: Limestone. Quarry 400 yards south of Blackwoodridge Farm. Dumfries.
Description: A compact, whitish-buff limestone, composed of the debris of shells and crinoids, many species of foraminifera, ostracod and polyzoan fragments, occasional productid spines and rhombs of oxidized ankerite cemented by scanty finely divided calcite which in places is entirely of algal origin. Limestone, fine-grained, microfossiliferous, clastizoic. SL0265. Britrocks S35469. Magnification x40. Light XPL.
