Caption: Lower Harelawhill Limestone. Quarry 150 yards north-west of Harelawhill, 3 miles north-east of Canonbie. Dumfries.
Description: A compact brownish-grey limestone, with scarce small crinoid columnals visible. Composed of a fine-grained turbid matrix of calcite in process of recrystallisation to clear granular calcite. Consisting essentially of finely comminuted molluscan, polyzoan and crinoidal debris. Numerous foraminifera, spines, Calcisphaera and larger crinoidal and shell fragments are present. Yellow bituminous matter is sparsely distributed through the rock. Limestone, micrograined, microfossiliferous, clastizoichnic. SL0204. Britrocks S35069. Magnification x40. Light XPL.
