Caption: Burdiehouse (Grange) Limestone. Newbigging Mine, 1 mile west of Burntisland. Fife Region.
Description: Dull cream-grey, compact limestone showing numerous ostracods. Composed of a matrix of finely divided carbonate, 0.001 - 0.005 mm grain-size in which are set numerous ostracod shells and some fragments of thicker molluscan shells. The ostracod bivalves when complete are filled with more coarsely granular carbonate up to 0.2 mm grain. Limestone, pelitomorphic, microfossiliferous: microcoquinoid. SL0171. Britrocks S34855. Magnification x40. Light XPL.
