Caption: Cornstone. Lannielane Limeworks, 5 miles west-south-west of Straiton; band in stream below the main worked limestone. Ayr.
Description: Dense whitish limestone with calcite veins and aggregations divided into indistinct nodules. In section it is seen to be a finely granular limestone of even grain averaging 0.03 mm. Veins and less well-defined insertions of coarsely crystalline clear calcite ramify through the fine-grained component. A few quartz and feldspar grains up to 0.2 mm in length are present among the fine calcite. Limestone, fine-grained, crook-veined, breccioid. SL0155. Britrocks S34657. Magnification x40. Light XPL.
