Caption: Stinchar Limestone (lower, dark portion). Tormitchell Quarry, 3 miles north-north-east of Pinmore railway station, Ayr. Ayr.
Description: Dark grey compact limestone, composed of finely granular clear calcite mixed with turbid, possibly argillaceous, calcite aggregate of fine grain, through which black carbonaceous specks are scattered loosely. The larger constituents include fragments of shells, small entire shells, round bodies with granular calcite, aggregates of Girvanella and wisps of limonitic clay. Limestone, argillaceous, pelitomorphic to micrograined, zoichnic SL0153. Britrocks S34655. Magnification x40. Light PPL.
