Description: Grey fissile calcareous shale. Angular grains of quartz (up to 0.5 mm across) are abundant and potash feldspar and flakes of muscovite subordinate in a brown extremely fine-grained matrix which shows some parallel orientation of fine micaceous constituents in an isotropic clay base. Carbonate is present as sporadic idiomorphic crystals in the clay and as thin laminae of minute grains and rhombs. Dolomitic gritty shale. SL0148. Britrocks S34650. Magnification x40. Light PPL.
