Description: | Medium-grey, dull compact limestone, composed of a brownish semi-opaque base of carbonate (calcite) and clay material, sometimes patchily concentrated. In this lie scattered small calcareous fragments of fossils, scarce phosphatic fossil fragments and very numerous small rhomboid crystals, 0.02 mm across, of dolomite. A little pyrite and carbonaceous matter are present. The abundant residue after treatment with cold dilute HCl is mainly a mixture of amorphous clay with some kaolinite and muscovite.
