Description: Three specimens of muscovite mica split, trimmed and graded as 'No. 5', 'spotted' from the Little Scatwell mica prospect, eight miles from Strathpeffer, Ross and Cromarty. British Geological Survey Petrology Collection sample number MC 7738. The size No. 5 indicates the sheets were between three and six square inches in area. No. 5 was one of the most highly sought sizes. The 'spotted' rating indicates a clarity graded by imperfections of included films and spots of various metallic oxides such as magnetite, haematite and limonite.
