Description: A dark grey, rudely flaggy limestone from the Lismore Limestone Quarry on Eilean nan Caorach, Lismore, Argyllshire. British Geological Survey Petrology Collection sample number MC 7653. The limestone is Dalradian Supergroup (Precambrian) in age. Lismore consists mainly of limestone with partings and subordinate beds of black graphitic schist and igneous intrusions. The limestone varies considerably in composition and was quarried and burnt at numerous locations, the most important being north-east of Port Salen.
